What does OMP mean to you?: Where is OMP now? What do we want from OMP and where do we want to see OMP in the future? These are very important questions. Help make a difference in your community and make OMP into what you think OMP should be.

WISH LIST: Went over the unofficial OMP WISH LIST. Were growing and need cool stuff. Stop by the office and see if theres anything on the wish list that you or someone you know could donate.

OUTREACH COMMITTEE: If you have any connections or ideas of place where we could outreach or, even better, new ways of reaching out in the community to spread the word of OMP come to the OUTREACH MEETING in the office from 5:30-7:00 NEXT FRIDAY.

DAY OF SILENCE on APRIL 26: Do you recall any time when you've been silenced due to your orientation think about how many times this has happened not only in our community, but in the world. Help commemorate the memory of those whose voices have been silenced in the queer community and take the vow of silence. Tentative celebration and talk afterwards. Location TBA.

BAR OUTREACH, April 28: Turn your head and cough. This months bar outreach theme will be DOCTORS AND NURSES. So come on, but on some scrubs and help keep Olympia healthy. Meet us at UCAN @ 9.00PM

St. Patrick's Day Party and other OMP! News

Hey Amazing OMP Folks!!

OMP is having a St. Patrick’s Day Party this Friday!!!! Bracket and his room mates have been awesome enough to open up their house for the event. Bracket lives at 809 14th Ave SE. We are going to meet there from 7:30 to 10:00pm. I you can, please bring some form of food and games if you have them. This event is open to all 18+ LGBTQ people. So bring your queer lady buddies!!! Expect games! Food! Queerness!! Fun! St. Patrick’s Day!!

Also: OMP! is having its regular Core group meeting this Thursday (tomorrow!) As always we will start meeting at 6:00 but will quit meeting about ½ and hour early. This is so we can have time to head down to Gender Smash!!!!!! Gender Smash is an amazing open mike event focusing on issues around gender. Gender Smash is co-sponsored by OMP, Stonewall and GVHP. It goes from 8-12 at Manium.

Hello Beautiful OMPers,

Hey, this is a last minute reminder to come to our core group meeting this Thursday. As always tons of exciting OMP activities are in the works. Plus their will be fun people and food!

Also, this Friday we are having a community advisory board meeting. The community advisory board is a group of people with experience and connections in community building and HIV prevention. The CAB advises the OMP's coordinators and core group on how to do their work the most effectively and also paves the way for future collaboration. We will be meeting from 5:30 to 7:30 at UCAN. Anyone from the core group is more than welcome to attend. We would really appreciate input from people involved with the project. We will also provide food and coffee.

And last reminder: Stitch and Talk is on Saturday. We will be meeting from 6-8 to make crafts and chit chat. We are meeting at Jim's house.

Come and break your new years resolutions at OMP!’s first annual Resolution Revolution Potluck!!! Remember all those silly promises you made to yourself, like no caffeine, grease or sugar? Well we like you healthy, safe and happy, so come over and share what it takes to make you content with other queer guys ages 18-29!

Well be hanging out and having our usual fun and also including a new activity, a spot survey were we will improve our outreach and std prevention efforts by identifying where we see gay people. They are everywhere these days.

Hello OMP! Folk!!

This is an email to remind everyone to come to our core group meeting this Thursday. Lots of events have gone on since our last meeting and even more are in the mix so this upcoming meeting should be super fun and action packed.
As always, core group meetings our held from 6-8 at UCAN- 147 Roger's St. NW. Food, coffee and good company will be provided.

In other news, Stonewall Youth's annual retreat for queer youth is THIS WEEKEND!!!
This 3 day retreat will be amazing and is being co-sponsored by OMP! The retreat will be held on December 9th, 10th and 11th at at camp Solomon Shechter. This retreat is free to all LGBT2Q people 21 and younger and will feature workshops, panels, singing, crafts, campfires, singing and the opportunity to build community with queer young people across the state. If you nor someone you know might be interested in attending this retreat let John or Joseph know as soon as possible.

Also, a big thank you to everyone who participating in themed bar outreach last Saturday. You all are awesome.

Hello OMP Folks!

Tomorrow, November 22nd is OMP!’s Homo for the Holidays!!! Homo for the Holidays will feature food, movies, games and holiday crafts!!! We would like everyone coming to bring food and holiday crafts if they have any. Don’t let not having food stop you from showing up though.
We will be meeting from 6-9 at Jim’s house, who is nice enough to open up his house for this event. Jim lives at 300 Kenyon Apt M3. Self Defense Workshop for Queer People is Happening Tomorrow

On Tuesday October 25Th, The Gender Variant Health Care Project and Olympia Men's Project are hosting a free self defense workshop for all LGBTQ people. The workshop will be held from 6:30 to 8:30pm at the upstairs room of K-Records. K-Records is located at 802 Jefferson- next to the post office in downtown Olympia. The workshop will include topics such as understanding violence, dealing with verbal harassment, practicing physical skills and exercising your intuition. In other OMP News: OMP has been invited to attended Black Hill's Pride Grant Celebration this Thursday, October 27th. Black Hill's Pride is a sponsor of OMP and it would be great if we had a good showing of OMP guys show up. Since the Grant Celebration conflicts with our normal core group meeting time, we are planning to meet up at UCAN an hour early at 5:00. We will then have our core group meeting for an hour or so and then head over to the celebration. OMP is an awesome group of gay, bi, trans and queer guys ages 18-29 working to strengthen Olympia's Queer Community.

OMP is carving pumpkins and having a potluck on Saturday, the 29th. We are meeting at 6:00 at UCAN. Bring food and a pumpkin. For more information about these activities or OMP in general, give us a call a call or an email.

Jim, who so nicely offered to let us use his house for the event, lives at 300 Kenyon Apt M3. But then there is the question on how to get there and were leaving that up to you. Halloween is coming up! Keeping with the spirit of the season us at Olympia Men's Project have decide to find a gay horror movie movie for a monthly movie night. This turned out being harder then we expected when we realized the movies we had planned on showing weren't out yet. Still for your viewing pleasure we managed to tract downThe Wolves of Kromer, a film about gay werewolves. Now, how often do you get to see one of those? We will be meeting to watch the film at 7:00 at UCAN. Pop corn and hot chocolate will be provided.

Also keep in mind, next Monday, October 10th, is our next sushi night sex discussion!! We will be meeting from 7-9 at Jim's house. Give us a call if you need directions or more information. Where else can you go this Monday to eat sushi and discuss sex and relationships with a group of gay/bi/trans/queer guys?

Its a little ways off but I wanted to let everyone know that we have a theme for this months themed bar outreach so we can start gathering costumes. He is a message from Nick, our themed outreach coordinator.

Hey boys! Guess what you get to dress up as on the 29Th of the month???? Keep Guessing- BOY SCOUTS! Because nothing is as much fun as dressing up and going scouting for boys!!! Meet us at (location to be announced) for pumpkin carving and potluck at 5pm and stay on and dress each other up./ we’ll make condom merit badges, patches for our shirts and what ever else comes to mind!

Holy Smokes! Its almost the end of September! This means it is time to start getting OMP's October calendar out into the world. This calendar is subject to change, so check up with us to get the latest scoop on what OMP has going on.

The events we have planned so far are...

Scary Homo Movie Night - Come hang out and witness the scary gay movie core group member Nick Williams selects for us. Email us if you have any suggestions. October 6th, 7-9 at UCAN.

Sushi night/Gay Sex Discussion- Come eat and make rolls of raw fish while discussing things that our often taboo even among us queers. October 10th. Contact us for the time and place.

Core Group- Get together with a group of awesome gay/bi/trans/queer guys to plan activities and decide on the direction of Olympia Men's Project. October 13th, 6-8pm.

haunted Corn Maize- We are heading up to the Rutledge Corn Maize up towards Tenino. The cost is $10 for the maize and the haunted house. We are meeting at 7:30 at UCAN and car pooling together.

Its happening again!!!! Stonewall Youth and OMP! are bringing the community another evening of good olde queer fun! This Thursday, September 29th is the next Queer Skating Night!!! We will be skating from 7-9pm at Skateland. This is a pay what you can event and everyone is welcome.

We hope your having a lovely day. We also wanted to remind you that there are a few, yes more than one, events coming up this week. So without further a due...

Wednesday, September 14th, from 6-9pm OMP! is going to having a good old fashioned BBQ/Cookout. Tom has so graciously opened his home to our group for this summertime event. Tom has given us directions to his house, so please use them appropriately. The address is 905 Rogers St. It's right down the street from UCAN and next door to the West-side Co-Op. There is a gate that opens up into his backyard from the Co-op parking lot that we should use instead of the front door.

On Friday, September 16th, OMP! will be goin out into the city (Downtown Olympia) to do bar outreach. And to make it a little bit different and a whole lot more fun, we have decided to go out in costume. Arr, that's right, pack up your peg-legs and eye-patches, Pirates is the theme. And if pulling together a pirate costume seems like too much, we will stretch the dress code a bit further. If it's "sea worthy", wear it. We will also have some pieces people could borrow for the evening. We want this to be a real fun and hopefully talked about event, so we will be meeting an hour before we leave at John's house. Just a simple explanation on what Bar outreach is: We are going to be visiting the local gay bars and giving out information about OMP! and all of our upcoming activities. So from 8:30-9:30, we will be getting ready at Johns, and from 9:45-11:30ish we will be making the rounds.

Saturday, September 17th OMP! will be having a BIG Gay Carwash. This fun and wet fundraiser taking place in the UCAN parking lot from 11-5. Please dress in clothing that can get wet. OMP will provide the buckets, sponges and soap.

We are having a movie night this Thursday!! After talking things over at the last core group meeting, we decided to move our monthly movie nights to the 1st Thursday of the month. We are now holding movie nights in our office. This Thursday we will be watching a A Dirty Shame, the new John Waters film. In the film head injuries turn people into sex fiends!!! Plus, we will try our hardest to get the unrated version.
We will start watching the film around 6:00 and provide popcorn and hot chocolate!!!

The HEAR ME Project, in conjunction with Think MTV, presents the POSITIVELY NEGATIVE HIV/AIDS Story-Writing Competition for Youth-At-Risk. The winner gets $500 and their story gets adapted into an HIV prevention education film to be distributed nationwide to organizations like yours. For more details visit www.hearmeproject.org.

Howdy. Here is partial calendar we made up at the core group meeting last night.

September 1st, Thursday- Movie Night. We are going to watch A Dirty Shame, the new film from John Waters!!! Call for location.

September 5th, Monday- Flier making party!! We will be meeting in our office during normal office hours to hang out and work on OMP publicity as a group!!

September 8th, Thursday- Core group! same story as always. Hang out with awesome guys and plan the direction of OMP! 6-8 at UCAN.

September 10th, Saturday- David's Garage Sell. Not an OMP event, but something you should still know about.

September 15th, Thursday- GVHP's Gender Smash!! 8-12 at Manium.

September 18th, Saturday- We did this last year and it raised a lot of money and awareness of OMP and it was fun! 11-5 in the UCAN parking lot.

September 21st, Wednesday- Capital City Pride Meeting

September 22nd, Thursday- Core Group

September 29th, Thursday- Gay Skating (probably, we haven't booked it)

We wanted to pass along the information to you all about an upcoming forum being held in Tacoma on Wednesday evening. John will be attending, so if you want directions or want to ride together, please give us a call or respond to this e-mail with further questions.

On Wednesday, August 24, Tacoma PFLAG and Tacoma Human Rights Commissionwill sponsor a Community Forum on the topic "Responding to the Needs of GLBTYouth within the Community", featuring Dr. W. Bernard Lukenbill, professorat the University of Texas in the School of Information. The forum beginsat 6 pm in the Olympic Room of the Tacoma Public Library, downtown mainbranch. This is a free forum, open to all.In this open community forum, Dr. Lukenbill will talk about how civicorganizations and the individual community member can embrace the youth insociety and help them feel accepted, rather than shunned, especially aroundthe issue of sexual orientation.

Hey OMP,
We didn't end up having our monthly movie night this month due to Gender Smash at Off the Chain. We were invited to attend a Outdoor Movie Night at Dalyas, Stonewall's Executive Directors, House. Here is the directions and times for you to be there. It should be lots of fun since the movie is being shown on a large screen in her backyard.

I'm hosting an outdoor movie in my backyard this Friday night, the 19th, from 10pm to midnight. We'll be watching Over The Edge, a cult classic from 1979 with a very young Matt Dillon....it's a rebel youth story that takes place in midwest suburbia. Basically the kids there are completely bored and partying because there's nothing else there for them to do. When the adults close down their recreation center and want to build some big business.......the youth fight back! I think it's based on a true story. it's sort of violent and there's a lot of drug use, but it's a classic and totally inspirational.I live on 1515 5th Ave. SW.......it's on the westside, on 5th between Thomas and Decatur. Bring blankets and snacks......I'll make popcorn........and if you're not a stonewall youth or OMP! member, please donate $1-5. thanks.

Workshops at Health Department

Hello Core Group,

This is a reminder about the Workshops this Thursday on transgender needs and STI’s. It would be really great if some members of the core group could attend this training. These workshops will be held from 1-5 this Thursday, August 18th at the Thurston County Health Department. If you are interested in attending or want any more information please call John or Joseph at 352-2375.

Erick Janson, MPH, the education coordinator at Verbena will be conducting a workshop on transgender needs with an emphasis on trans risks for STI’s and sexual health issues. Verbena’s mission is to build vibrant communities for lesbians, bisexual & queer women, and transgender individuals through health advocacy, education, support & access to care.

Bonnie Nickel, with the infectious disease and reproductive health office of the Department of Public Health will present on updates in knowledge of sexually transmitted diseases as well as a general STI overview. with the assumption that those in attendance will have a general STI knowledge. This will serve as an STI 202 to supplement the general STI knowledge many of us already have.

Our Community Advisory Board meeting is this Friday from 5:30 to 7:30. It would also be great if some people from the core group could attend this meeting. Once again, let us know if you are interested.

HIV Vaccination Workshop at UCAN

Gay City Health Project’s Alfredo Lopez will present a workshop on the HIV vaccine trials currently happening in Seattle and how they relate to the lives of young gay and bi men. Despite the availability and success of HIV treatment drugs in the US, the best long-term leaves hope for controlling the AIDS epidemic worldwide is the development of safe, effective and affordable preventative HIV vaccines. The workshop will contextualize vaccines into the larger idea of HIV prevention. HIV vaccines, microbicide research and advances in condoms and lube will be discussed. This workshop is being put on my Olympia Men’s Project and will happen on Tuesday August 2nd from 7-9 pm at UCAN. - 147 Rogers St. NW.

Queers on Wheels Part 3

What’s more fun than Skating? Skating with a bunch of Queers!!! Two awesome local queer organizations, Olympia Men’s Project and Stonewall Youth, will be hosting Queers on Wheels Part 3 on Thursday, July 7th from 8-10pm. Queers on Wheels Part 3 will be happening at Olympia’s Skateland, which is located on South Bay Rd. and 12th Ave. The cost is $1-3 plus skates (cheap!) but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. DJ Dalya will play and everyone is welcome! Stonewall Youth supports, informs and advocates for queer and trans people 21 and younger. Olympia Men’s Project is a community building group for gay, bi, trans and queer guys ages 18 to 29. OMP!!

This is first off a reminder that the core group meeting that was scheduled for Thursday has been moved to May 5th. Thursday is Dine Out For Life, one of UCAN's major fund raisers, and Stonewall's Birthday fund raiser at Jakes. Instead of having a normal meeting, we are meeting up at 12:00 to have lunch at Darbie's and to support Dine Out for Life.

Also, we wanted to remind everyone about the zoo trip we are having this Saturday, April 30th. We are all meeting at 12:00 at UCAN and Carpooling together to Tacoma. The cost for the Zoo is 8.75 a person. Let us know if you would like to go but can't afford it.

OMP! is having a sushi making party/sex discussion on Monday, May 22nd from 6-9 at Joseph's house. This will be the follow up to the OMP! session we had on Monday, April 18th and should be similar to the sex talk barbecues. It would be awesome if all the guys in OMP! could go to this. If you plan on coming and want directions to Joseph's house please call or email us.

After a productive and exciting core group meeting we now have a tentative schedule for May!!!

April 28th- Core group moved to May 5th due to Dine out for Life and Stonewall's Birthday Fundraiser being on the same night. Dine out for Life is a fundraiser for UCAN where certain restaurants give a portion of their profits for the day to UCAN. Some of us are meeting at 10:30 at Darby's. Stonewall Youth is having a carnival themed benefit at Jakes from 7-11pm that night. This should be a " night of music, dancing, burlesque, drag, fire dancers, stilk walkers, and much more!'

May 5th- Core Group meeting 6-8pm

May 15th- Bird Watching!! Being organized and lead by Tom! We are all meeting at 12:00 at UCM and then carpooling.

Nature stroll a success!

A big wonderful hug (and a kiss if you want it) to everyone who came to the nature stroll at McClane Creek last sunday. Shame on everyone else. No, just kidding. No shame on anybody.

Anyway, we had a great time mincing around the forest and talking about nature and stuff, you know. John and Joseph bought lunch and we had a fabulous picnic by the stream. I gave everyone a lesson in plant sexual anatomy, not quite as exciting as some other organisms' anatomy but still hot in a strange, botanical sort of way, and much more socially acceptable. Know what I mean? Oh, nevermind!

In that spirit, I am posting the contents of Joseph's last email about April event times, just in case any of you tend to lose track of important emails the same way that I often do. 7pm-9pm(ish): Movie/discussion night at Off the Chain that is being put on by Nick, a guy in the core group. Off the Chain is a coffee house located downtown, on the same block as Hannah's and Chopsticks.

6pm-8pm: Core group meeting. We have core group meetings every 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month from 6-8 at UCAN.

12pm - 3pm(ish): Cody, another great guy in the core group is leading a Nature Stroll. We will meet at UCAN at Noon and then carpool together to McClain Park. We will be packing a picnic for that event.

Sunday, April 30

The last thing we have planned for the month is a zoo trip. We will meet at UCAN at 12 and then carpool together to the Point Defiance zoo in Tacoma where they have monkeys and bears and goats, oh my.

Hey, this is an update from the core group meeting we had last night. One of the things we accomlished last night was filling out the calendar for April. We are continuing to have core group meetings on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month from 6-8pm at UCAN. This will be on April 14th and April 28th. We moved the Nature hike we had planned for the April 7th to Sunday, April 10th. We will meet at UCAN at 12:00 and then carpool together to McClane Creek on Delphi Road. On Thursday, April 21st we are having a movie night upstairs at Off the Chain starting at 7:00 and on Sunday, April 30th we will meet at UCAN an travel together to Point Defiance Zoo. The cost will be about $8.75 a person. Future events we don't have dates for yet include an OMP! session (sex and relationship discussion for gay/bi/queer guys), another queer skating night, a car wash, and lube wrestling. Other things we discussed last night included ways to better advertise our project.
